The Harlem Renaissance: Courage, Grace, and Vision with Janet Mandel
The Harlem Renaissance was the beginning of an explosion in creativity that transformed African American identity and history, but it also transformed American culture in general. This talk will introduce you to many of the inspired artists who produced astonishing and ground-breaking work and will prepare you to enjoy the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s exhibition, the Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism, which is on view until July 28th. In conjunction with this lecture, we will take a day trip to The Met on Tuesday, March 26th, to tour this exhibit. Please call for the trip price and to reserve your spot by March 1st.
Janet Mandel has retired after teaching for 32 years in the New Jersey public schools. She now presents illustrated lectures on art history at museums, adult schools, libraries, and senior centers.
This lecture is sponsored by Right at Home of Essex County
