Eyal Hulata is a senior international fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) and the first foreign visiting fellow at FDD headquarters. From 2021 to 2023, Dr. Hulata served as Israel’s national security advisor and head of Israel’s National Security Council (NSC) under Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Prime Minister Yair Lapid. During his tenure, Eyal coordinated the national effort on Iran, coordinated the maritime border agreement with Lebanon, and co-headed the Strategic Consultation Group with his American counterpart, Jake Sullivan. Prior, Eyal served for more than 20 years in Israeli national security roles and was awarded the prestigious Israeli Defense Award.

Hussain Abdul-Hussain is a research fellow at FDD. He focuses on the Gulf region and Yemen, including on Gulf relations with Iran and Gulf peace with Israel. Born and raised in Beirut, Baghdad and Baalbek, Hussain worked as a reporter, and later managing editor, at Beirut’s The Daily Star, reporting from war zones on the Lebanese border with Israel, and from Iraq. Hussain has published in English in The New York Times and The Washington Post and in Arabic in various publications. His analysis has been quoted by Vox, The Jerusalem Post and Newsweek. Hussain has appeared on CNN and MSNBC and is a frequent commentator on major Arabic satellite networks.
