Camp Deeny Riback Vocational Supervisor – Otzmot Staff Specialist Program

Camp Deeny Riback (CDR), an offsite day camp run by the JCC MetroWest serving families from Essex and Morris counties in New Jersey, is seeking a full-time Vocational Supervisor for its Otzmot Staff Specialist Program for the upcoming summer camp season.

CDR provides opportunities for campers, families, and staff to connect and grow through summer experiences that are created through a Jewish lens allowing connection to Jewish values, traditions, and a love for the State of Israel. The Otzmot (Hebrew for “strengths”) Staff Specialist Program is an 8-week vocational program at CDR for individuals with disabilities ages 16+ who will be hired as CDR staff to fill specialist positions with an added training component focusing on work readiness.


Job Description:

The Vocational Supervisor of the Otzmot Staff Specialist Program, a member of the CDR leadership team, will work with a group of 7 -10 young people with disabilities during the eight weeks of camp. The Supervisor will oversee the progress of each individual in the program while assisting them when needed to ensure they are maximizing their potential while in this Program. The goal of this Program is to expose these individuals to our eight weekly skill-related topics with an end goal of each individual finishing the summer with a working resume and ability to express the types of skills they used while working at camp.

Supervisor must have:

  • Experience working with teens and adults with disabilities in a work skills environment
  • Experience communicating with others regarding the possible accommodation that a participant might need to be successful in their job
  • Experience training staff members to work with teens and adults with disabilities
  • Ability to work Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM in Flanders, NJ June 27th – August 19th (additional training dates in June as well)
  • Ability to work outside daily


Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise group of specialist assistants that is comprised of a group of teens and young adults with disabilities
  • Run training sessions for specialist assistants before the start of the summer camp season to ensure they are prepared for their placements during the summer
  • Create and facilitate training sessions during the camp day to talk about and, if need be, model information related to the weekly topics
  • Guide the specialist assistants in creating a resume that can be used for job interviews post-camp
  • Collect daily feedback from the camp staff with whom each specialist assistant is working in order to monitor their progress and identify any areas that might need addressing
  • Communicate with the families of the specialist assistants on a weekly basis at minimum regarding their progress and what the family can reinforce at home
  • Document the progress of this program during the summer with photos and notes to provide the Camp Director with material that can be used to report back to donors about the progress of the Program

Camp Dates: June 27th – August 19th
Camp training takes place in June.
