Molly Burack Annual Lecture: The Faithful, by Rachel Reuben

Molly Burack Annual Lecture: The Faithful, by Rachel Reuben

Thursday, October 4, 12:30pm | FREE TO ALL

The Faithful is The Chosen for a new generation, with Potok’s 1940’s Brooklyn giving way to gritty 1990’s Crown Heights. Five compelling coming-of-age characters live out this edgy, push-pull story that juxtaposes ultra-orthodox Judaism with the modern, secular world. The Faithful explores the boundaries of love, sexual identity, gender, faith, racism, and violence.

Rachel Reuben is a writer and classically-trained chef. The Faithful is her first novel and is based loosely on her personal experiences as a secularly-raised teen immersed in the ultra-orthodox Jewish world.
