DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\nHumor as Resistance in Holocaust Cinema with Stuart Weinstock\nWhen does comedy serve a higher purpose than entertainment? Jewish responses to Nazism and the Holocaust have utilized humor to attack the perceived power of totalitarianism and assert the dignity and humanity of those who survive to tell jokes. Some of the films to be discussed include To Be or Not to Be\, The Great Dictator\, The Producers\, Life Is Beautiful\, and Jojo Rabbit. \nThere is no advance viewing required for this lecture. \nStuart Weinstock is the Director of the NJ Jewish Film Festival and the year-round J-Films programmer at JCC MetroWest. He earned his BA and MFA from Columbia University\, where he programs public film events for their Institute for Israel and Jewish Studies.
