Life Long Learning: Gustav Klimt and Vienna’s Golden Age

Part of the Life Long Learning Series:
Gustav Klimt and Vienna’s Golden Age
Instructor: Janet Mandel
Gustav Klimt dominated cultural life in Vienna at the turn of the Twentieth Century and was the bridge between the Symbolism of fin-de-siècle Europe and the wave of Modernism that captured the imagination of the Continent. Part I of this talk will tell the story of Klimt’s remarkable life, as well as examine his ebullient landscapes, sensual drawings, and ravishing portraits. In Part II we will discuss the relationship between Klimt and his many Jewish patrons, what happened to them, and to the Klimt works they owned during the Nazi era and beyond.
