Shadow Drawing Activity

Supplies:

  • Paper
  • Pencils (colored pencils optional)
  • Crayons (optional)
  • Markers (optional)
  • Sidewalk chalk (optional)
  • Various items of shapes and sizes (literally anything will do)

Directions:

 

 

 

 

 

 

1.) Go outside and find the sun!

 

 

 

 

 

 

2.) Set up your drawing subjects in front of your paper

 

 

 

 

 

 

3.) Make sure the subjects are in the sun and casting a shadow onto the paper for your kids to trace — that’s it!

 

 

 

 

 

 

4.) You can use small blocks to create various scenes for your children to sketch. Creating various heights and widths. (OPTIONAL)

 

 

 

 

 

 

5.) Have one or more kids stand in the sun to cast a shadow and let another one trace their figures with sidewalk chalk. (OPTIONAL)
